Then the cultists are trying to stop a rebellion, but letting their leader live, and they're too dumb to realize Lara is just wearing an obvious disguise. The village characters were just totally aggravating - Lara buying into their ancient mysticism and risking her life to recover random trinkets, it just felt so pointless. Almost half of the game is spent in the village. The village - beautiful and cool to experience - but overstays its welcome by a lot.

that would have been cool, but nope, he's just alive (think about the Chewbacca thing from ep 9). I wish they left him in the village to act as your logistics or whatever, or killed him off when Rourke said he did. All of his conversations are so predictable and just drawn out. When he's not yelling at Lara as some moral compass (yawn.), he's getting captured by the enemy and losing your world ending macguffin, or magically appearing to save you from something that is less dangerous than many other things in the game that you survive normally. but he's way too prevalent in the game's story. He's not Lara's love interest - that's cool, she doesn't need one - I'm ok with a sidekick friend. Jonah - I have to say it, but he was obnoxious in this game. There is one scene where Lara gives in to her rage and goes after one of the antagonists, but drops almost immediately goes back to soft Lara. I'm all about helping people, but I kind of wish the game focused more on Lara's solo journey, exploring and unravelling some cabal's conspiracy while fighting mercenaries/evil spirits/cultists. Lara is now in her 3rd game, but still acts like some confused/good-willed humanitarian. I should touch on the story here next, because this wouldn't be such a big problem if the characters weren't so irritating and dumb. There are just too many of these sections, too much boring dialogue, and you can't always skip it (and the game pauses itself if you try to alt tab. The devs should have stopped trying to make a CGI movie, and give more control to the player. These overly long sections, tons of long and mostly pointless talking sections, and a bunch of other cutscenes really (REALLY) kill the pacing. and while world building is important in story games like this, they go overboard with this. The game has many sections where you slowly walk around to absorb the environment. While the game looks great and runs fairly smoothly, it's all in service to a mostly flat game. While playing Shadow, I found myself getting bored and by the end was skipping cutscenes to just get to the end. I remember liking the second one less but was fine playing through it. It's been a while, but I remember having a positive outlook of the game.

The set pieces were fine, and the story had good pacing. The levels/tombs/action was all pretty good. I really enjoyed the first game in the reboot trilogy.
#Pixel 3 shadow of the tomb raider series
Underworld and Legends continued with the James Bond version of Lara that the original series was based on, and those games were pretty standard for that era's run and gun titles - not great, but playable. I've never played pixel era Tomb Raider, but I have played Underworld and Legends, and then the reboot games (the first two in the reboot trilogy) before this. Please don't read if you intend to play this game and don't want anything spoiled. My review will have to go here since I played this on Epic.
